The latest Mazda Roadster from Mazda Motor Corp has won the title of the Japanese ‘Car of the Year’ for 2015-2016. The 6th model for the new generation vehicle lineup, Mazda’s new Roadster, features the entire range of KODO-Soul of Motion designing and SkyActiv technology. Mazda Roadster is a lightweight open-top, rear-wheel drive, front engine sports vehicle created for the ultimate driving experience.

The two-seater got a lot of praise from the JAHFA judges for its high-end open-top sporty design as well as the modern SkyActiv technology. The judges also spoke about the extraordinary fuel efficiency and driving performance of the Mazda Roadster, owing to the lightweight frame of the vehicle. Even though the car is light in weight, it has a rigid body.

Successive wins for Mazda

The aim of the automobile company while redesigning the car model was to further enhance the driving experience. It has done a good job at perfecting the car’s driving position and also reducing its weight by more than 100 kilograms. It is the second successive win for Mazda in the same category. It was a close fight with the Honda S600 mini-roadster. Mazda has received two “Car of the Year – Japan” trophies. It was awarded the same title for its Mazda2 last year.

The CEO and President of Mazda, Masamichi Kogai, said that the positive result was due to everybody’s enthusiastic support. The company is proud and thankful that the Mazda Roadster has received such an esteemed honor.

Model redesign

The company wanted the model to remain a driver’s car in every respect. So Mazda engineers and technicians were focused on making the car practical and ideal for everyday use. The car has an easy-to-operate, weatherproof top and adequate space in its luggage compartment.

All the passenger vehicles with an estimated annual sales of more than 500 units, launched/announced between October 2014 and October 2015 in Japan were eligible for the ‘Car of the Year’ award this year. The Mazda Roadster, following the footsteps of the Mazda Demio, became the 6th Mazda car to win the title of the Japanese Car of the Year.

The president of the company was reported saying that the win has inspired them to continue manufacturing cars, which provide driving pleasure. They want their cars to be the ‘only one’ for their customers.
